Rafu
“Rafu” is an Urdu word that means “patch” in English. The dance duet is the Representation of a relationship that, like all relationships, must be constantly patched up so that it grows and does not fall apart. The desire to repair a relationship and Sustaining life is a constant process.
At a time when relationships often break without any serious attempt to repair them, Rafu asks the urgent question: why do we allow rifts to separate us instead of making the effort to heal them? Like a beloved piece of clothing that is put back together with delicate stitches, every relationship requires care and patience to heal its cracks.
Rafu is a ritual process, a cyclical repetition of restoration. The dancers embody the cycle of decay and renewal by continually re-creating the bonds between the partners and building the relationship. The famous Indian writer once said, “Thoda sa Rafu Karke dekhiye, Zindagi hi toh hai.” This means, “Patch it up a little, it is only LIFE.”
